The family of St. James Lutheran Church welcomes you to our website and hope it invites you to visit us. Please join our community for worship and service to our Lord Jesus Christ. We welcome all people and believe that every person is a child of God who is unconditionally loved.

Jesus commands us in the gospel of St. John "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another".  We believe that because Christ loved us we extend that same love to all people.

Our faith community is in the heart of downtown Wheeling which provides us the opportunity to be an outreach to the community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We provide outreach ministries to adults and children.  Because, we are centrally located our ministry reaches beyond the boundries of just a downtown community.

Our ministries are an act of love.  Because we encounter God, we can do no other then to share that love with others.  Grace is a gift that is freely given to all people through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  Through him we are being transformed daily into his likeness through our baptism.  The community of St. James feels priviledged and blessed to have the opportunity to minister the gospel at any place and any time.  This is God's work, but it is our hands that provide the help and healing to all people.

We invite all people to participate in ministries at St. James from the community, other parishes, or those looking for a church home.  It takes many people to provide for those in need.  We are all servants of Christ serving in the community called "The Church" regardless of our faith practice we are foremost followers of the most "Holy God".  In our service, we are passing love to one another.   Of course, you are always welcome to worship in our faith community.

Lastly, we ask that you pray for our community and our ministry.  We believe prayer is powerful and God loves to hear our voice.  So, we are requesting your prayers for all those who will be helped by our ministry and those who volunteer their time and talents.

We hope to see you soon!
